Coronavirus Vaccine Update: Adelaide-Based Company Vaxine To Start Human Trials

The first human trials of a potential coronavirus vaccine developed in Australia are about to begin in Adelaide.

Vaccine research director Professor Nikolai Petrovsky said the human trials beginning in Adelaide today were the first for a vaccine developed in the southern hemisphere.

He said “I am very confident there will be successful vaccines against COVID-19.”

Coronavirus Update: Why Australia Still Accepting International Travelers

The majority of coronavirus cases recorded in Australia have come from overseas and the majority of those cases came from either Europe or cruise ships.

The spokeswoman from the Department of Health said, “Due to international travel restrictions, those individuals arriving in Australia are generally arriving via charter or repatriation flights.” But most of the people entering Australia are coming home.

Chief Medical Officer Brendan Murphy said Everybody in hotel quarantine will be tested near the start and end of their stay in quarantine, with those who do not comply in Victoria facing an extra 10 days in quarantine.

Alison McMillan Warned “This Coronavirus Pandemic is Not Over Yet”

Australia’s chief nursing and midwifery officer Alison McMillan warned “this pandemic is not over” as the country recorded 85 new cases in the past 24 hours.

She described what a “second wave” of the deadly coronavirus would look like and warned that although younger people might suffer milder symptoms, they were absolutely at risk of infection and could spread the virus to more vulnerable Australians if they were not careful.

Daily growth figures have stoked fears of a second wave of Coronavirus in Australia after several weeks of fewer than 20 new cases a day.

Australia’s economy, which is heading into its first recession in three decades as the unemployment rate hits a 19-year high of 7.1%.
